Motivation and Leaders

Motivation topic has been preached around for years. How to instill the motivation in every employee at work? The organization normally conducted team building in order to ensure all employees is kept motivated. As usual, everybody is well motivated during the session but it will go with the wind after the session. It is difficult to keep them motivated always. Why is this happen? There are many factors involved. One of it is the working environment itself.

Many organizations are led by leaders which can be divided into two categories, namely rank-and-file leader and qualified leader. There are differences among this two. Rank-and-file leader use to manage the organization based on their years of experiences. Most of this type of leader knows many of technical know-how rather than administration matters. They have started work as junior employee who has hands-on experiences. Therefore, the rank-and-file leader able to make decision well on technical and operation matters. However, the rank-and-file leader is always lacking the administration knowledge which they need to use it most of the time.

Instead, qualified leader is considered a well-groomed leader. They learn to be a leader and at the same able to learn the technical know-how. They are able to cover both sides of knowledge which is a requirement in order to be a successful leader.

How does both types of leader related to motivation? Motivation falls under administration knowledge. Most of the leaders require administration knowledge greater than technical know-how. Why? Leaders function is to coordinate and organize. Technical know-how knowledge is an additional advantage for the leaders to understand the workflow and whole process to enable them to manage better. No matter how much or how good the technical know-how knowledge the leaders have, it is always go back to the administration skill or managing skill. Leaders do not require doing the hands-on, they are supposed to make decision and follow up which is fall under administration skills.

What is the basic motivations driver that they need to know and have? Reward and recognition. This is the top of the others. Employee do not come work for free. They go to work for survival. Therefore, it is the duty of the leader to ensure fair reward and recognition is given to the right employee to keep them motivated always. No matter what, the organization must bear in mind that each employee does contribute to the wellness of the organization. The leaders should learn on the imperative of human capital in the organization. Then only they will able to understand the significant of it.

The employee will definitely able to experience the differences of management between rank-and-file leader and qualified leader. Rank-and-file leader is normally a bit stringent as compared to qualified leader. Rank-and-file leader used to be practice favouratism and only trusted some of the employee. Most of them are still practicing autocratic style of leadership. They normally at most of the time fail to keep employee motivated. This type of leader normally will stay long in one organization. Normally the office environment is dull and sour.

Qualified leader is groomed with creativity knowledge. They are able to find alternatives and think out of the box as they have better exposure in leadership knowledge. Qualified leader is more open-minded as they know every employee has their own strength and capability and reveal mutual respect as they learn the imperative of human capital. They are able to keep the motivation within the office environment. They know how to display and implement the motivation drivers well. The office environment is more lively and cheerful. They use to be successful and normally this type of leader very seldom stay in one organization for long as they themselves are motivated suffice to move forward.
