Efficient Duct Repair For Your Home

As air conditioners and heaters are becoming a necessity at workplaces, shopping malls and homes, it is thus important to have an efficient duct system for effective distribution of air. An ineffective duct system can burn a hole in your pocket due to sky-rocketing energy bills. The ducts in a duct system facilitate flow of air from the central heater or air conditioner to every part of the house and then back again. If the duct system is poorly insulated or connected, then it can lead to leakage of air and wastage of energy. In fact, according to a statistical study, about 20% of air leaks through a normal duct system in every household. Therefore, duct repair is essential to save energy and maintain adequate temperature within the premises.

Loose and unsealed ducts not only prevent proper cooling or heating, but can also lead to accumulation of dust, pollen, moisture, and contaminants. In duct repair, the ducts are sealed and insulated to avoid leaks especially in unconditioned spaces like attics and basements. The ducts should be first checked for any air leaks and then sealed or joined with an effective sealing material. Cloth duct tape, fiberglass tape, and quality vapor mastic are generally used as sealing material. Small duct repairs can be easily accomplished, but sometimes the whole duct needs to be repaired. For extensive duct repair, it is advisable to take professional help. Insulation of the duct can be done using barrier coat, which also prevents accumulation of moisture in the ducts.

Insulation is not only limited to residential areas; even commercial buildings need to be insulated, for saving energy. Commercial insulation is essential for commercial areas, so that energy loss and heat flow can be prevented. Offices and workplaces should install insulation to make their buildings energy efficient and sound proof. Commercial insulation can be done using different material like cellulose, fiberglass, mineral wools and foam.

Whether it is insulation for homes or commercial buildings, it is always necessary to insulate critical areas like attic. Attic insulation is basically done to reduce the radiation and convection effect of heat. With this kind of insulation the area will remain cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Batts, rolls or reflective material can be used to insulate attic or any other place. Insulation is easy to install and homeowners can do it either on their own or take professional help.
