Mole and Wart Removal Information What to Expect From Surgical Procedures

Many people suffer from moles and warts. The majority of the time these moles and warts do not cause the individual discomfort. However there are other reasons why moles and warts should be removed. With all the information available out there on the internet it can be quite difficult to pinpoint which course of action would best suit you. Either way before going ahead with any kind of treatment or procedure it is advised that you consult your doctor firstly.

There are many methods when it comes to removing moles and warts, for example there are surgical procedures, herbal remedies, over the counter treatments and prescription treatments. This article is going to focus on the surgical methods involved.

How to Remove a Mole

There are several ways to remove a mole. The most common methods are: laser surgery, excision and herbal products or creams. Excision is the process of cutting the mole from the skin by shaving it away with a scalpel. The wound is then closed up either with stitches if the wound was deep, or by applying a solution to seal the area. Cauterization is where after a mole is removed, an electrical instrument is used to burn the area where the mole once was as this seals the wound, reduces infection and prevents excessive bleeding.

Laser therapy is the third option. In this procedure a laser is aimed at the mole which seals the blood vessels and evaporates the tissue. This is a very effective procedure for moles that do not penetrate the skin too deeply. In order to speed up the healing process after a mole removal, apply vitamin E on the wound.

How to Remove a Wart

Like with moles there are several ways to remove a wart: herbal remedies, over the counter topical creams, laser removal and Cryotherapy which involves freezing of the wart with substances called cryogens. Most commonly these days liquid nitrogen is used but your doctor may opt to use Carbon Dioxide snow as an alternative.

The dermatologist may also opt to burn the wart off using pulse dye laser depending on the type of wart the patient is afflicted with; the laser energy is focused on the wart tissue itself. The laser penetrates deep into the skin and is concentrated onto the tiny blood vessels feeding the growth. This in turn 'snips' off the wart.
