Getting Out of the Pit
Getting Out of the Pit

When one falls into dark times or is just dealing with one problem after another, they can often feel that the world is against them, and they continue to sit in the dark hole without allowing themselves to see that things can get better. It is what we do when we arrive in these times that determines what kind of person we are. We can continue to sulk and just allow ourselves to fall deeper and deeper in to the bottomless abyss that is self loathing, or we can decide that we don't want to live in a hole and make something of ourselves by staring despair in the face and saying "enough." If nothing changes, nothing changes.

There are a variety of ways to pull one's self from the dark pit. Therapy can be helpful, but not everyone wants to poor out their darkest secrets to a total stranger, regardless of how much training they may possess. We can confide in a friend, but they dont always understand the personal suffering we are going through. When all else seems to be unhelpful, going to church could possibly be a surprising alternative. Attending church allows one to give up all their pains to God, and they can do this anonymously if they choose. When they feel comfortable enough, and they feel that maybe God is trying to help, they can pray to Him and ask for guidance and strength to make it through the hard times that currently lay over their head.

God can be a great supporter, helper and friend to those who dont know where to turn. Though He does not always answer prayers the day we ask them, and He does not answer all the prayers we may send to him, like please God make me rich, He always seems to come in the form of great coincidences, like the times we need the most help or in times we are most likely to see and hear what is being done for us. There is no harm in attending a church service. The worst that could happen is that you don't open your mind or heart and may miss what is happening right in front of you. Through faith in God and the self, we can pull ourselves out of any darkness that may take us over.
