Fluctuation between Atheism and Belief in God: Lack of Proof for Either Position

If atheism can be defined as disbelief in God or gods then the atheist is one who does not believe in the existence of God. Belief in God, or gods, can be defined as theism in opposition to atheism.

In this article we are concerned with the existing phenomenon of both parties who stand in complete opposition to one another. There are those who do not believe in the existence of God and those who do believe in such existence.

Why is this phenomenon?

Lack of proof for the existence of God creates such a havoc and chaos in the lives of the multitudes of our humanity. No one single proof, evidence, index or even a solid argument can be produced in favor of one or the other argument. For, indeed, if such a proof in favor of the existence of God can be provided, then all humans fall down on their knees and believe in God. On the other hand if proof can be provided for the non-existence of God then everybody does not believe in God.

But the presence of those who do not believe in God can be verifiable and evidence for those who believe can be verifiable just as well. In fact, should we consider on a very general sweeping census the world population religious topography in terms of belief and disbelief we can observe a two-fold huge classification of attitude with relation to God's existence.

Marxism has sharply divided up world population between disbelievers and believers in God. The Marxist ideology is an ideology of total rejection of God and total rejection of religion.

Marx has considered religion as the opium of the people and Lenin, Mao and other world leaders have annihilated religion from their societies e.g. the ex Soviet Union and China, and many other satellites of the socialist ideological indoctrination, North Korea and Cuba remain in such classification as well as some African, South American and Asian countries up to the present.

In the vast majority of these countries one complete generation has lost contact with religious belief and hence denied the existence of God. Atheism reigns completely in China now (about 1.3 billions of people) and some two other billions are disbelievers in God today. The total of disbelievers can be estimated at about half of world's population in our days. Buddism count about 300 millions and they all disbelieve in God, while some of them take Buddha for God.

On the other hand, belief in God has returned vehemently following the collapse of the Soviet Experience in 1991 after seventy years of atheist indoctrination where all systems of education and society were founded on the rejection of God.

The collapse of the USSR has led immediately to religious revivalism on the world and dormant major religions such as Christianity , Islam and Judaism revitalized their existence with strong coming back belief where believers and fiddles came back to their religious beliefs with strong determination.

These monotheistic religions are now underlying the world civilizations replacing patriotism, regionalism and laicism. They are responsible for the new world map of dividing up the world of belief-systems camps, defining the attitude of humans and defining the new borders and limits of modernity and postmodernity.

The world is divided up now into those who disbelieve and those who believe in God. It is further divided up into smaller world camps according to the belief-systems of majorities of world populations. Christians constitute about 1.6 billion of world population while Muslims constitute 1.4 billion and Jewish population at 13 millions, while Hindus constitute 800 millions.

Now, definition of humans is not as before according to their countries but according to their belief-systems and clash of civilizations as well as the criterion of relation among peoples is dominated by religious attitudes of world populations.

The 9.11.2001 eventuality (criminal as it is) has further divided up world population into more distinctly camps of belief-systems and drawn the borders and distinction between peoples according to their attitudes to religion and religious belief.

In the ultimate analysis lack of proof' for the existence or non-existence of God and religious doctrines left the door wide open for a large spectrum of atheism and theism in world population, a thing that has ever existed since the existence of man.

Humans wonder about the universe, their existence and the purpose of their existence. Humans want to know where they came from , what are they doing here and where are they going to.

Religion offers a worldview that is plausible for those who believe and is rejected by those who don't. The non existence of a proof or any evidence leaves the grounds free for every individual to make up his own mind according to his, or her.

Personal convictions with regard to the universe, cycle of life and finality for man. Those who reject God, whether atomists, mechanicists or materialists, they deny God and the need for an architect to make the universe. They are free to do so.

Those who are convinced, at their personal initiative and efforts of the need of a God to bring about the universe and man within it, choose to believe in God and follow a certain belief-system or another. The crossing point is lack of proof which leaves man with only the choice between atheism and belief.

It is purely a choice, and a very deliberate free and independent choice where reason, feeling and sensing play the dominant factors in the final decision of the personal choice. This choice is universal where everyone has to make it at one time or the other in their lives. It is inevitable and unavoidable.

Lack of proof for either the existence of God or the non-existence of God divides up world population, as it certainly did throughout time and shall always divide up men into believers and atheists.

Those who are skeptics can be considered as disbelievers in God until they pronounce their belief.

If I do believe in the existence of God but cannot produce for you one proof, it is my free choice. Should you be an atheist and disbelieve in God then it is your free choice.

Every one of us has this free choice that he, or she, has to make before death, for death seals the choice, but we have to make the choice. However, if we look minutely in this universe and in our own being and our forced interaction with our universe, all veiled indications refer to the necessity of a God, All Powerful, All knowledgeable and All creating.

It is in this very choice that lies the value, worthiness, freedomanddignity of a human being
