Chinahas obtained great achievements in biochemical industry. However, there are also some problems in development process which cannot be ignored as follows.
(1)Biochemical industry inChina mainly focuses on the fields like pharmaceutical industry, light industry and food industry. Many enterprises are not quite familiar with the truth that most of biochemical products are fine chemical products. In addition, the rules and regulations of biochemical industry in our country are not strict enough. All these inadequacies result in the requirement of choosing suitable raw materials so as to reduce production cost and consumption.
(2)The structure of products is unreasonable with single variety and repeated production of low-end products. In our country, the demand of high-end biochemical medicines such as hormone, growth factor, interferon and peptide officinal is rather considerable. However, these marketable products are few produced or are not produced at all in our country. Most of them need to be imported from abroad.
(3)In the aspect of production technology, engineering technology and the equipment have nor been well coordinated with each other, and so have upstream technology and downstream technology, which leads to the low yield of products. Although the ferment level of some products like citric acid and lactic acid is high, that of most products is rather low. Each year, lots of capital is spent in importing advanced bioreactors, separation mediums, biosensors and so on.
(4)Many products' input-output ration can reach more than 15%, which causes serious resource waste and environmental pollution.
(5)The fundamental research is weak and the ability of technology innovation is low, which forces the enterprises to adopt the traditional growth model in an extensive form. The economic model results in low efficiency and market competitiveness.
In order to solve these existing problems, the research of biochemical industry should be developed into two directions:
(1)the technology of biotransformation as well as separation and extraction
The technology of biotransformation and separation and extraction is a cross domain of chemical engineering and biotechnology. As a kind of green chemical industry, it makes use of biotechnology to synthesize fine chemicals and medicines, which is beneficial to environmental protection and human health. It will accelerate the development of fine chemical industry and pharmaceutical synthesis into a higher level. The study includes developing food additives, pharmaceutical intermediates, medicines and the technology of separation and extraction in post-processing.
(2)bioprocessing engineering
The study range of bioprocessing engineering is rather large: the separation, extraction, purification and application of polyclonal antibody; preparation and application of monoclonal antibody; preparation and application of genetic engineering antibody; the application of immunization technology in food science; the study and application of new fermentation technology of yeast system and streptomyces system's seed selection in genetic project of bacterial strains. All these mentioned above belongs to the study field of antibody engineering and fermentation engineering respectively.
These two directions can provide some references for the further development of biochemical industry. They are also expected to reduce the existing problems as much as possible.
