In recent times there has been a distinct move away from the usual corporate event and wedding reception entertainment such as comedians, cheesey dj's and third rate covers bands.
Today, event management companies and wedding planners are opting for more high brow' entertainers, and as a result of increased exposure that includes the use of Pavarotti's rendition of nessun dorma' as the world cup theme in 1990, and Paul Potts winning Britain's Got Talent' in 2007, the operatic performer has become more and more common in mainstream' entertainment.
As technology becomes cheaper, more people are able to take advantage of the performance enhancing capabilities that computers and computer software offer, dj's use beat mixing software and singers use pitch correction and effects that improve their performances, and it has been suggested that is this that has fuelled the upsurge in classical and opera entertainment. We spoke to Margaret Cooke from Opera Bespoke who told us, These days, anyone can turn up at a venue and provide a reasonable performance using the technology and software that is now available. We have seen that people want to be reassured of the quality of their entertainers before they are booked to perform, and Opera singers are a sure bet as they are professionally trained, and have a proven performance track record, rarely using microphones or amplifiers, let alone any other of the gadgets or gizmos that are often used. Opera singers have no need for any of these, and rely purely on the power and quality of their voice, which has the added bonus in that they do not need to set up loads of bulky equipment, they can just turn up and go', and we believe these are the factors that have led to the increased popularity of our opera singing services, and of course, everybody is looking for something a bit different. And what could be more different than our opera singing waiters surprise act?'
Margaret told us that in the 3 years since Paul Potts won BGT, there has been a huge increase in demand for their singing waiters, an act that involves their trained opera singers dressing as waiters at a wedding reception or corporate event and serving food with the regular waiters before breaking their cover, and to the surprise of all of the attendant guests, begin to deliver a polished performance of traditional opera or popular contemporary songs in perfect operatic voice. This trend has been mirrored throughout the entertainment industry and is set to continue for the foreseeable future, so forget your 70's disco and tired old jokes from second rate funny men' and add a bit of class to your event with some top class entertainment from top notch singers, and put some arty' into your party.
