Its Beginning The New World Of The Have Nots

I would be the first one to applaud the new bionic technology that is emerging on the scene. The ability to heal the paralytic and to make the blind see again is a wonderful and miraculous thing. Lives will be transformed in ways never before thought possible.

We are on the cusp of something really huge. We all know that artificial organs such as hearts, livers, and kidneys exist. And we all know that they are imperfect and have a high fail rate. But progress in biomedical technology is progressing steadily and I have no doubt that the future for these and other transplants is very bright. And the secret weapon on the scene that most people don't know much about is the bio-computer chip and the myriad of ways in which it can be implanted into the human body.

Obviously, at least in the society in which we live now, it is the rich who will initially benefit from all this wonderful biomedical technology. They will live longer. They will perhaps become more powerful. And it is quite plausible that they will tip the scale in their favor and bring on a new age of tyranny in which only a select few have access to cyber technology while the rest of humanity are assigned to the menial tasks.

One great question here is the brain. Identity and the brain are so deeply intertwined that it is hard to imagine a person being the same with a different one. Can a brain be healed or reinforced through cybernetic technology. There seems to be no limit on other organs- if it weren't for the brain a human making use of cybernetics could possibly live for thousands of years. But what of the brain? Now I find that question very much one for cause of concern.
