Nokia - Cashing in on the OVI

Nokia is offering a whole gamut of entertainment services to its mobile phone users via the Nokia OVI services, an offering of various web-based multimedia services. The OVI services include downloadable games, maps, media, and contacts management, and messaging services. These services can be accessed through any mobile phone, or through any computer (through the installed OVI Suite application), or through the Internet. Since its launch, the OVI services have gained popularity immensely, resulting in retention of its youth customers. Initially launched for Nokia users, Nokia has now plans for converting these immensely popular OVI services into a multimedia platform, which can be used by third parties as well, such as games and application developers.

As more and more Nokia device manufacturers are getting in the Internet services (for example, Apple, Microsoft, and so on), competition is getting stiffer when it comes to retaining customers. However, with Nokia OVI, Nokia has managed to create a positive buzz surrounding its internet services. The result has been positive as well with the Nokia OVI Store registering over 2.3 million apps downloads per day right at the start of this month (October, 2010). There's plenty more happening with OVI's other services as well.

There are plenty of services that are currently being offered by Nokia under its OVI brand. These include:

Nokia OVI Store:

Launched in 2009, the OVI store offers easy downloads of music, videos, images, mobile games, mobile applications, ringing tones, and a lot more; many of which are available for free as well.

Nokia OVI Suite:

The OVI Suite is an application especially designed for Nokia mobile phone users. This exceptionally useful application software allows users to connect their devices to PC (MS Windows). It also facilitates synchronization of contacts, messages, images, calendar, videos, and music with the Nokia mobile phone. In addition, with this computer application, you can also download maps to your Nokia cell phone, backup the cell phone's content on your computer, and so on.

There are plenty of other services such as instant messaging, OVI Mail, OVI Maps, OVI Share (media sharing), and OVI Files that offer a variety of internet services. Nokia has also started to offer more and more freebies to its consumers including the recently announced offer of free songs download on select Nokia mobile phone handsets. Cashing in on OVI, Nokia is now starting to reinforce its status as one of the biggest player in the Indian mobile phone market.
