How we can eliminate fear in our lives

We all live with fear in our lives. It is often said that fear is man's greatest enemy. Fear can be behind failure, poor health, and behavioral problems. Large numbers of people are afraid of the past, the future, old age, dying, losing their memory, their mind, etc. Some fears are irrational and have no basis in reality because it is imagined and the subconscious mind inspires a feeling of dread or anxiety in a person's mind. It inhibits them, causing them unnecessary grief and upset.

There are many of these types of fear. There is a fear of heights, stage fright, fear of enclosed spaces, fear of flying, exam fear, etc. These fears appear to others as trivial and inconsequential, even downright amusing. They are dismissed as insignificant and unworthy of discussion. However, to the person with such fears and anxieties, they are a very real blight in their life. Fear can paralyze and incapacitate, causing dysfunctional lifestyles.

I understand this type fear from first hand experience. When I was young, I often froze with fear at meeting people, often feeling inferior to them. It was a terrible and unforgettable experience. There are basically two ways of mastering fear. The first is to face the very thing you are afraid of; by repeatedly doing so, it loses its mystique and sting.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, philosopher and poet, said, "Do the thing you are afraid to do, and the death of fear is certain." This method is not easy and requires a lot of courage and perseverance, but it does produce results. With an insight into a particular fear and knowingly influencing the subconscious mind, the problem can be solved in a gentler, easier, and possibly a more complete and lasting way. I believe that by understanding and applying the laws of affirmations and visualisation we can free ourselves from all types of fear in our lives.
