So we have all heard of lap dancing but do we really know what is available in lap dancing clubs? Well the first thing to do is to look at what is a lap dance? How did it evolve and how does it work? Well firstly a lap dance is a type of erotic dancing performed in a strip club where the recipient is sat down and where the dancer is in close proximity to the recipient. Depending on where you are in the world the lap dance may include touching but often it is just a dance within a foot or so of the client.
So where did this type of dance originate? Well strip clubs have been around for many years and in these clubs strippers danced on stage and were paid a wage by the club they were dancing in. During the 1970s audience participation was introduced at the Melody Theatre in New York. Following on from this initial step the Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theatre in San Francisco added an extra service for its clientele where they could pay for one of the naked dancers to sit on their lap and for this they paid $1. Word spread and so did this practice as it appealed to club owners in two ways. First the public loved it and it brought more people into the clubs, secondly it allowed the owners to pay the girls less as they would allow the girls to keep the money they "earned" privately. This sitting on client's laps evolved over time into lap dancing as we know it today.
As with most American trends lap dancing arrived in the UK and quickly spread to every major city but was frowned upon by a lot of the public and seen as a degrading sexual act. In 1996 a court case decided that it was legal and acceptable but only as long as the dancer was not touched by the recipient and that they stay 12 inches away from each other.
A lot of clubs are now advertised as lap dancing clubs whereas before they would be 'strip clubs'. The girls are now mainly self employed and the original strip show that still occurs is the chance the dancers have to show off their assets and gain clients for later on when they carry out their lap dances. The dancers will either pay a percentage of their takings to the club or pay a set amount to be able to be in the club each night.
As you can see lap dancing is not just a dance leading to sexual intercourse as many think, it is a business and one the girls must take seriously in order to support themselves. Why not visit one of the many great lap dancing clubs around and experience for yourself the joys of lap dances.
