Lula Fabrics

Lula Fabrics launched their Spring Range recently, it is the first fabric range in South Africa to be printed digitally. Melissa Kerkhoff is the designer behind Lula Fabrics, she has created a mainly floral collection this season, referencing vintage and classical musicals from the 1940's and much of her own original botanical artwork.

For this range Melissa has employed a muted palette, but the colours still manage to be cheerful. Even though the range was launched in Johannesburg, we are sure to see Lula Fabrics decorating much Cape Town accommodation, even the Mount Nelson has used her range from last season to redecorate 10 of their rooms.

Melissa predicts that the next big trend in design will see the use of old traditional florals, except with a contemporary take. We are sure to see muchaccommodation in Cape Town that will incorporate florals that are simplified and appear in fresh, unnatural colours and are seemingly painted in a watercolour technique.

Melissa draws on a range of inspiration that influences her designs, such as folk art and Indian block printed designs. The designers she looks up to are Trisha Guild, for her bold use of colour, Issey Miyake and Tjord Boontje for his laser cut lights. The bright, energizing prints that these inspire make the fabrics fit in perfectly in any holiday accommodation in Cape Town, especially beach accommodation in Cape Town.

Lula fabrics also offer a small range of furniture and accessories that include chairs, ottomans, sandals, cosmetic bags, handbags and of course cushions in a variety of shapes, for those who seek to add a dash of colour to their Cape Town holiday accommodation.

Lula Fabrics are now part of the new Boardmans Welcome home' collection, a collection that showcases the best of authentic South African design in products from 44 leading designers.
