Golf Backswing - What You Need to Know and Why It Is So Important!

Are you sick of swinging the golf club poorly and struggling to hit a good shot on the golf course? Do you want to know how you can make the entire swing you have better and do so fast? The key to the golf swing is the golf backswing because this is where it all starts and this dictates the rest of the swing. Here are the things you have to know about your backswing to help make your swing more consistent.

1. The first foot back

When you first start to take the club back you dictate exactly what you are going to do with your swing path. If you take it inside, then you will go back to the inside and cast over the top to come in from the outside. If you start the club outside you will most likely come very strong from the inside as you approach the golf ball with the club head. If you take is straight back you are probably more advanced an you will most likely have a very nice swing that is slightly inside to out with a baby draw.

2. Position #1

In the golf backswing there are a few positions and the first one is obviously position #1. The club shaft is parallel to the ground and the butt end (or grip end) should be pointing at your belly button or belt buckle. In this position the clubhead should be outside the hands compared to the target line and your club head should be pointing toe up. This is the correct place for the clubs to be to start the golf backswing.

3. The myth many amateur golfers believe

Most golfers do not know any better and they have heard over and over that you have to have an inside to out swing path to get the maximum power and control over the golf ball. This means that they will most likely try to take the club very inside on the way back to get it to come down inside on the way through. However, in most golf swings if you take the club back to the inside you will get stuck at the top and will cast it to the outside on the way down. This is the major cause of a slice and getting to position #1 is the first step to fixing this slice swing.
