Using Purification and Filtration Systems

Ric Hendrickson is a residential sales manager at Patterson Heating and Air Conditioning, where he helps clients in the Charlotte area find solutions to their HVAC problems. According to Hendrickson, while there are areas of the country where whole house ventilation is seen as a good thing, Charlotte of North Carolina is not one of those places.

The reason that homeowners in other areas of the country with better air quality are encouraged to install whole house ventilation systems, or ERV ventilation systems, is because these types of systems are intended to let homes breathe.

ERV Systems

Whole house ventilation is a type of system that is meant to increase the airflow in people's homes and make it easier for indoor and outside air to interact. These days, many of the newer-style homes built are put together so tightly that the air outside can't reach the inside at all without an ERV system. People are using EVR systems to bring in air from the outside to condition it and use it in their living spaces. Then, the exhaust from the living space air is taken back out into the atmosphere.

That process is what we refer to as "air changes." However, because of Charlotte's D- air quality rating, these ERV systems are not an effective or healthy option for homeowners in the North Carolina area. When it comes to the air quality rating, it is a measure of the pollutants in the air, on a scale from A to F. In Charlotte, we have a D-air quality rating, which is so low that this type of interaction is not seen as a desirable thing.

Therefore, we try to stay away from ventilation in homes around here, as far as venting the house to the outside air. When the outside air is of such a low quality, the pollutants can actually trigger allergies and other health problems for people. That is why I recommend that homeowners in Charlotte who have HVAC problems and are looking for new solutions check out purification and filtration systems like those that Patterson Heating and Air Conditioning offers.

Pure Air System

Purification and filtration systems work by taking the air that is already inside a home and treating it to increase the quality and purity. One system in particular that Patterson Heating and Air Conditioning recommends is called a Pure Air System. The Pure Air System is a whole house purification system that not only gets particulates like dust, dog hair, and dander out of the air, but also kills bacteria, viruses, and odors as well.

Although whole house ventilation systems bring the polluted air inside, the purification and filtration systems that I recommend are meant to clean the air that is already inside the home and increase the quality of the air that children and adults are breathing. This makes the home safer for children with allergies or other health issues as well, since many conditions can be exacerbated by excessive amounts of pollutants in the air.

In Charlotte, the Pure Air System that we use is a whole house purification system. So not only does it get rid of the dust and dog hair, but it actually destroys them. The Pure Air System can also get rid of any chemicals that are in the air of the home as well. Homeowners with HVAC systems can have the air quality in their homes greatly improved upon with the use of air purification systems, as opposed to trying to install whole house ventilation systems. The air purification systems are just a better form because we are taking the air that we already have in our homes and treating it to make it as good as it can be.

Remember, the air that goes through an air purification system will be cleaner than any air that is coming through a house with a whole house ventilation system in place. Therefore, if you are interested in the prospect, then you can call Patterson Heating and Air Conditioning to find out more about what options are available.
