Before we consider Internet Marketing, let's take a look a little bit bout "Marketing." I asked my wife what is Marketing? She replied Marketing is selling things and a place that they sell the things. The answer is not wrong but you can't say right either.
Business Dictionary defines it as Management process through which goods and services move from concept to the customer. As a philosophy, it is based on thinking about the business in terms of customer needs and their satisfaction. As a practice, it consists in coordination of four elements called 4P's: (1) identification, selection, and development of a product, (2) determination of its price, (3) selection of a distribution channel to reach the customer's place, and (4) development and implementation of a promotional strategy. Marketing differs from selling because (in the words of Harvard Business School's emeritus professor of marketing Theodore C. Levitt) "Selling concerns itself with the tricks and techniques of getting people to exchange their cash for your product. It is not concerned with the values that the exchange is all about. And it does not, as marketing invariably does, view the entire business process as consisting of a tightly integrated effort to discover, create, arouse, and satisfy customer needs."
I have nothing to argue with this definition but I would like to arrange back and forth a little bit. Marketing is Customers demand +Products+Services. For me, customers demand or people's need is the foundation of Marketing.
So Internet Marketing is all of this marketing through online or internet, that's it.
How People do business or make money on Internet?
Thousand of bloggers get money online. Some they do not sell any product. Can we still call Marketing? Many blogger professed by Triffics. OK please look back my Marketing definition NEED+PRODUCTS+SERVICE. Many people need knowledge, information, tactics about something. It is the needs. What is the products of Bloggers. Normally Ideas, Articles and motivations.
If we go to deeper level Internet marketing refers to strategies used to market a product or service online, marketing strategies, including search engine optimization and search engine submission, copywriting that encourages visitors to take action, strategies for website design, online promotions, reciprocal links and email marketing and it affects only highlights.
Generally, we can see Internet marketer as Ads marketers, Adwords Marketers, Affiliate Marketers, Article Marketers, Email Marketers, Web Service Marketers and so on.
Internet Marketing is just like offline manual marketing. To be a good marketer we need to be aware about NPS (Need, Products and Service). Find what is people's, your customer's need and get their needs and supply it to them. And then You are good marketer.
