The year 2011 will always be looked back on as the year of dual core smartphones and the LG Optimus 2X will always be remembered as the first phone to kickstart the revolution. Although the Motorola Atrix 4G saw release earlier in the United States the Optimus 2X was the first dual core phone to be released in most European and Asian markets. The speedy processor on board the Optimus 2X has attracted a lot of attention and singled the smartphone out as one of the fastest mobile devices available.
The Optimus runs on Android Froyo although this will be updatable to Gingerbread at some point in the future. It also comes with LG's Optimus interface that includes great support for social networks like Facebook and Twitter. As an Android phone the 2X comes with access to Android Market where you can obtain many amazing games and apps to enjoy and the 2X comes with many of these already available.
The phone features a superb 4" capacitive screen that is visually well endowed and comes with multitouch support. On top of this there is an accelerometer and a gyro sensor that can provide some interesting ways of controlling the phone. The screen makes the 2X an ideal phone for video content including online video through YouTube or Flash video websites. The 2X can also provide you with up to 40GB storage space when microSD cards are used, which is plenty of room for a great deal of video and music content.
On top of this the 8 megapixel camera comes with support for 720p and 1080p video recording so that you can make your own high quality videos. The 2X includes DLNA Wi-Fi and an HDMI port so that you can connect it to other devices such as your home television to enjoy video content on a larger screen.
The Wi-Fi and 3G connections also mean that the 2X can be a great way of enjoying the internet with web pages being displayed in all their glory on the fantastic 4" display. The phone comes with support for threaded SMS, email, instant messaging and social networking like Facebook.
There is also a secondary 1.3 megapixel camera on the front of the 2X that you can use for making video calls over services such as Google Talk. The Optimus 2X is the first phone to come with high powered dual core processors and provides it with speed that many other phones do not enjoy. This is ideal for all intensive apps like games and video content. Although there have been a number of other dual core smartphone since unveiled to the world this should not in any way take away any of the shine from LG's masterpiece. The phone remains a superb device for entertainment, messaging and general smartphone activity and will remain a benchmark handset for many months to come. The Optimus 2X will be upgradable to Android Gingerbread within the coming months with all the benefits that this update provides.
