A lot of families can find themselves spread all over the world if some braches of our family tree emigrate or retire abroad. Even members of the family that go travelling for a year or more could be away from home for significant amounts of time. When people go away from home for prolonged periods of time they may find that they could get a little home sick.
This feeling can take many forms, it could be simply missing members of your family or it could be something as quirky as your favourite brand of food from back home (Marmite is a popular one in this category, especially with families in Australia!). The best way to indulge the far flung member of your family is by sending them a little reminder of home.
This can be done really easily by compiling a little care package' of some of your relatives favourite things. You need to be careful as there are some items; particularly some food items that you may not be allowed to send in the post, pressurised containers are normally not allowed as your parcel will be travelling via air mail and could explode or damage the other contents of your parcel.
Photos of family members or even pets can be great additions as most people travelling won't think to pack a picture of the family, after a few months away it would be nice to remember everyone's face back at home!
Sometimes you'll be able to pack certain items such as medicine which may be scarce or too expensive in some countries, again you need to be careful over what you send as some pharmaceuticals may be restricted items so make sure that the item you've sent complies with customs in both this country and the destination country.
Once you have assembled your care package you'll need to make sure that you pack it correctly, this should be done by making sure your parcel is in a sturdy enough box and the contents don't have lots of room to move about. If the contents of your parcel are left to move around freely then they could be damaged during the delivery process.
Insulate your parcel properly to keep the contents from being damaged too, bubble wrap, scrunched up newspaper and polystyrene can help make sure your parcel is knock and drop proof.
