EDGEMOOR HOTEL - SOUTH DARTMOOR

In south Dartmoor near the town of Bovey Tracey the Edgemoor Hotel offers a country feel with a taste of luxury. At the time of writing this article the Edgemoor had changed hands just 6 months earlier and the new owners have already made improvements to rooms. The hotel is within a few minutes of Bovey Tracey, Dartmoor National Park itself as well as the main A38 making this Dartmoor Hotel ideally located for those visitors that want to explore more of Devon than just Dartmoor National Park.

THE ROCK INN - SOUTH DARTMOOR

Just 2 miles on to Dartmoor from The Edgemoor hotel in the small hamlet of Haytor Vale The Rock Inn can be found. Formally a coaching inn 'The Rock' as it is known to locals has gained a reputation for fine food and wine. Rooms are fairly small and traditionally styled and room rates are reasonable. The Rock Inn within Dartmoor National Park and is popular with walkers and those who want to explore the National Park. Haytor Vale itself lies beneath Haytor Rocks possibly one the most famous Tors of Dartmoor.

TWO BRIDGES HOTEL - CENTRAL DARTMOOR

Central to Dartmoor we find the Two Bridges Hotel which offers luxury in a spectacular setting. Two Bridges is in the centre of Dartmoor and fairly remote, perfect for travellers who want the luxury but wish to get away from the madding crowd.

The Hotel has 33 bedrooms with all the facilities you expect of a quality Devon Hotel yet retaining an individuality, many hotel rooms with 4 poster beds.

BOVEY CASTLE - EAST DARTMOOR

To the East of Dartmoor we find Bovey Castle a hotel set within a huge manor within hundreds of acres of grounds with its own spa, 18 hole Golf course and fishing rights. Bovey castle is very luxurious and along with the luxury comes a high price. It's by no means inexpensive but well worth the money.

In 1880 William Henry Smith (WH Smith, later to become Viscount Hambleden) purchased the land and more besides that Bovey Castle occupies today. It was his son Frederick who built the Manor House which was completed in 1907.

Since that time it has been used as a convalescent home during the First World War and as a military hospital when war broke out again in 1939. From 1946 to 1983 it was returned to the Great Western Railway and re-opened as a hotel. It then changed owners again in 1991 when considerable expansion took place and the golf course became a top priority, shortly becoming one of England's finest courses.

The Manor House became Bovey Castle in 2003 and since then has continued to expand with the addition of the 22 lodges, spa and pool and underwent further refurbishment in 2008.

GIDLEIGH HOTEL - NORTH EAST DARTMOOR

Chagford in North East Devon is a beautiful Dartmoor town and home to Gidleigh Park Hotel. As one of the few family owned luxury Devon Hotels their reputation for service, and dining is world-renowned.
