Part of being a good driver is to keep your eyes on the road, be aware of your surroundings and anticipate what the cars around you are doing. But a new survey has found that three quarters of drivers on Britain's roads have been distracted when driving, with seven in ten men admitting distractions by pretty females in cars, or walking down the road. This is in comparison to just twenty five percent of women admitting the same distraction. Seventy five percent of those polled say that they have nearly had an accident while admiring the scenery where they are driving, and other eye catching distractions have been clever billboard advertising and roadside art. Insurers say that the number of claims peak in august, suggesting that the nice weather is another source of distraction for motorists on our roads.
Insurance companies feel that these results could be slightly skewed, as many motorists are unlikely to list looking at a member of the opposite sex as the reason they crashed, and more likely to say that an animal ran out in front of the car!
Advice given by our Car Insurance companies is that the best thing to do is to keep both eyes on the road and try to avoid being distracted, as although admiring the scenery may be nice at the time, your bank balance will not thank you when you have to fork out for an excess on your insurance policy, or obtain a new quote after losing your no claims bonus!
