For a reference point, Meriden became a town in the 18th century, originally part of Wallingford up to that point. In 1867, the town was incorporated as a city.

Once the location of the International Silver Company, Meriden went through various industrial changes in the late 20th century and early 21st century. Presently, the city is going through a renaissance as a location for biotechnology companies. Driving is not the only option for commuting to work from Meriden, however. The city has its own CT Transit bus system and is served by an Amtrak stop and express bus to Hartford.
Aside from being an ideal location for commuters and of up-and-coming industry, Meriden has multiple recreational options. The Hunter Golf Course is considered one of the state's best golf courses, and Hubbard Park has several options for being active. The spot of the annual Daffodil Festival, Hubbard Park has paths for walking, hiking, or biking and is the location of Castle Craig Tower.
