Social Media Marketing. How Not To Drive Away Customers.
Social Media Marketing. How not to drive away customers. For the most part, even though we here the phrase, social media marketing, few know how to make it work for them. There are 65,000 social media sites, yet, most of us can only name a few.
Most of the thousands of social media sites make up niche markets, with only a select few used by most people. Most people can only name four or five sites.
Facebook, MySpace, LinkdIn, and YouTube, the big four, will be the ones most people recognize and will be the ones we will address here. Youtube is included here because it fits the definition of social media even though it doesn't actually work the same as the other three. Facebook and YouTube are the ones used by most people.
These big four were never intended to be used on a commercial basis and therefore do not lend themselves to that application. So, the question then is how do we use them for commercial applications?
These big four were designed to be a friend to friend medium and when a business or person with a business to promote tries to force a commercial usage, they are shut out by those they have offended with their spam, resulting in failure for that business. So, the question becomes, how is a business to use this powerful medium?
We will offer two answers to that question. First, and foremost, is to add value to the marketplace and not to spam or overtly sell your product, service or opportunity. Doing this attracts people to you as opposed to having them 'hide' you from their friend list, as often happens when you spam.
What I mean by adding value is to write an article or produce a video that is educational or informative to your audience. You then share these articles or videos with those in your group of friends or fans.
It is vital that you find groups that will be interested in your products, services, or opportunities. As an example, if you are tying to find people to recruit into your Network Marketing opportunity, you would want to join groups with that interest.
This will attract people to you and your knowledge and you will not have to spam them. They will be attracted to you naturally.
The second answer is to find a commercial social media site, such as CityClickers.com, an good example of such a site. By doing this, you will have a group of people that is looking for business related material. Additionally, you can search through the sixty five thousand social media sites to find one that is specific to your business.
If you want to attract people to your business, you will have to give them something of value that will offer them a reason to look at your business. Once you have their attention, you can then pitch your product or business and they will listen. It is that easy.
