subject: Guideline Keys To Creating A Website [print this page]

Alright... So you want to create your very own website and you've heard that it was not difficult, but you don't have any idea how to start. I have built many websites and I have included below some straightforward step-by-step guidelines to help get you started.

I am going to assume that you want to create a simple website to start out with.

1. You'll need to get an HTML editor

To create a website, you need an software program that can create and save your web pages. That's what HTML editors do. However, don't buy an HTML editor. There are lots of them available that are free. You probably already have Microsoft Front Page on your computer. If you do, that will work. If not, do a Google search

2. Find and download a free website template.

Again, just do a Google search for these. There are a lot of website templates available will work just fine for a new website. As soon as you locate a template you are satisfied with, download it and place it in a folder. The next thing you want to do in go into each page and edit them to say what you want them to say. Don't be concerned - it's not that difficult. Simply open the webpage in your HTML editor, locate the text you want to modify, change the text, and save it. The same as you would a Word document.

3.Choose a domain name and hosting service

This is the first step in creating your website and where you are going to have to invest a little money. You may be thinking, I'll just try a free hosting site. I would not recommend that. Free web hosting generally place advertisements on your web page that are not reliable. It's best not to do it! The cool part about paying for hosting and a domain name is that it is relatively inexpensive. To register a domain name is about $10 per year. Hosting will run you about $10 a month. A good hosting service is GoDaddy, you may want to check them out

4. Move your website online

The last step in creating your own website is to transport your website on to the web. The hosting company you choose will provide you with a method to copy your website files to the hosting server. That way your website will be visible to the public when they type in your domain name.
