Why cleaning of the Cache Memory is essential?

Many Internet surfers do not know the meaning and the function of cache memory which is present in their computer. Cache memory is a super fast memory which is either built in the CPU of a computer or is located in a chip next to the CPU which uses the cache memory for storing the instructions frequently needed for running programs and improving the overall speed of the system. The benefit of this type of memory is that the system bus of the motherboard is not used by the CPU for transferring data. The speed of the data transfer slows down along with the capability of the motherboard when the data is passed using system bus. Cache memory helps the CPU in quick data processing by taking the burden of data transfer.

Cache stores copies of data from the frequently used locations of the main memory and the processor first checks the cache for the availability of the copy of the required data before writing to or reading from the main memory. If the copy is available in cache, it uses the cache instead of the main memory. The CPUs of almost all the modern desktops and servers have 3 or more independent cache memories which speed up the data processing and data transfer.

The cache memory also contains huge temporary files gathered from the Internet as whenever we surf the Internet, the browser collects some temp files making it easier for us to revisit the sites in a quicker way. This is a great thing for the frequent web surfers but there are many sites which do not require revisits and the information gathered from those sites remain stored in the cache and the more the space consumed the more the processor slowdown so it becomes very important to have cleanup hard disk support.

There are some easy steps to clean the cache and they depend on the web browser you use. They are:

For those using Firefox Go to the menu bar of the browser and click on:

Tools Options Advanced "Network" tab Clear Now

For the users using IE8 Open the browser, press Ctrl, Shift, Delete simultaneously, check the box which is next to "Temp Internet Files" and then click "Delete"

For those surfing with IE7 Open the browser, click on Tools menu, select "Internet Options", go to the general tab, locate "Browsing history" and then click on "Delete". It will show one popup window where you need to select delete files and on confirmation, click "Yes"

For people still in love with IE6 Open the browser, click on Tools menu, select "Internet Options", go to the general tab, and then click on "Delete Files". Click Ok two times and your job is done!
