subject: Why Action And Tenacity Are Necessary For Success [print this page]

There are many different success strategiesThere are many different success strategies. So many, in fact, that you could probably waste several lifetimes just studying the theory behind all of the different ones out there, and never actually get around to implementing any of them.

For me though, there are just two words that count, and once you fully understand the implied meaning behind those two words, you can hang any number of success strategies you want onto them and make them fit.

So then, what are those two words? One is action, and the other is tenacity.

Firstly, lets look at action. You need to establish what action needs to be taken and then take massive action. All out, 100% effort, no holds barred, both feet in, sort of action.

Sitting at home constantly dreaming up plans and strategies is no good, as dreamers never become successful. You still need to dream, but once you have your overall dream in mind, then your focus needs to switch to the achievement of it. Remember that action without preparation is always better than endless preparation.

A friend of mine once put it to me like this - the gap between being a spectator and a player is often less than a meter wide, and the only thing that keeps a person from making the change from spectator to player is their unwillingness to make that short step from being on the fringes to being involved.

Now, lets move on to the second word - tenacity. This means that once you set your sights on something, you need to chase it for as long as is necessary to get your hands on and, once you have your hands on it, you need to never let go of it.

I am not talking about a blinkered approach here, as if you go headlong charging blindly towards your dream, blinkers on, no peripheral vision, you will as likely to charge straight past your target as it comes hurtling towards you as you will be to get your hands on it.

So, tenacity does not equate to tunnel vision. Rather, it means to take your determination, and to multiply it by a hundred. Whatever you start, you must see through to its conclusion.

A quote fits nicely in here - "Success seems to be largely a matter of holding on after others have let go".

This means that there will always be lots of people going after the same opportunities and, normally, only a handful, maybe even just one, can succeed. If you want that to be you, then you have to keep at it longer and harder than the others that you are competing against.
