Why kids education is so costly
Why kids education is so costly

In a recent survey conducted by ASSOCHAM across nine prominent cities of India on the issue of 'Rising school expenses versus the dilemma of young parents', it is now 160% costlier to send a child to school in India excluding the tuition fee. Just imagine the average tuition fee for a private school in India works out to about Rs 35,000 annually. This has made parents choosy when it comes to choosing a school for their child. With approximately 65% of the parents of the opinion that more than

half of their salary was spent on their child's education another group of parents felt schooling was literally drained out the income. Many parents felt education had turned into a lucrative business and a higher the fee didn't necessarily correspond to a higher quality of education.

According to the survey a number of schools functioned on the demand for education in the area and most of them were monopolies indicated by erratic fee hikes every year. Transport works out to anything from 12 to 15k, which is an average parent's monthly income. Midday meals are not free in private schools and they invite another 10k, not to forget the cost of what we would hardly pay much attention to- shoes that cough up another 5K per child. Fussy parents can choose between sending their children to under-staffed government schools or flashy private schools that are quite capable of pinching their pockets. With the Fundamental right to compulsory basic education becoming a bill, lots of schools including the DOE have ignored the other half of the Bill that states schools are not allowed to conduct screening tests for children or parents. Schools on the contrary feel, it's the large number of applicants that have forced them into taking this route of conducting interviews for both, the children and the parent. The other screening factor happens to be the fee which poses to be a barrier for the children coming from economically marginalized families. The greater the technology, the higher the feeso now with classrooms becoming smart and digitized, the fee is a rocketing high, after all, you pay for what you get and education has a price.!!
