Whenever you hear the word Argao, it is tantamount to quite a number of things such as: torta, suncake, podrida, tableya, tuba, and suka.

Argao, a town in the South of Cebu, is one of the popular places of many tourists despite its location, which is 66 kilometers from the city. Aside from its nice beaches, castle, and other natural views, it is one place that has lots to offer to its visitors namely:

Torta

Argao has been famous for its well-loved torta; a delicacy from a mixture of several ingredients such as tuba (fermented coconut juice), pork lard, egg, and more secret components. This is equivalent to a homemade cake or a pastry, but of high-quality as compared to other locally produced home goodies. Since there are several Argawanons who have made torta-making their means of livelihood, you can find a number of variations for this delicacy. However one thing is certain, that Torta has been and will always be a part of Argao's tradition. Whenever a tourist visits the town, it will be a great loss for him if he will not taste one of its well-celebrated indulgences. Therefore, never leave the place unless you get a taste of it and you will surely comeback for more.

Suncake

This is a kind of cookie that is formed into various shapes like star, flower, or triangle. These are freshly baked that have consistent crispness and texture. This cookie is also considered as a staple food in every Argawanon's home, which is best when dipped into a hot choco drink.

Podrida

Same with suncake, this is a type of pastry, but with sweet fillings embedded at the center. Its filling varies according to the preference of the maker; however, the most common is the coconut jam (the likes of macapuno). The sweetness compliments well with the cookie that is baked with just enough tang.

Tableya

Cocoa beans or most commonly known as tableya, is a word that is synonymous with Argao. Made from pure ingredients, it can be diluted to make a hot chocolate or can be a perfect match for "champorado" (rice mixed with tableya and sugar). Unlike the commercially prepared tableya, Argao-made cocoa is concentrated and one hundred percent pure. You can never find any single residue even after diluting, which is why tableya is one of the most-sought after by most visitors who have tasted its difference.

Tuba

Tuba, which a local wine derived from a coconut juice, is famous even before the Spanish times. It is produced after a fermentation process, which produces different classes like dawat, bahal, bahalina, and tinuig. The class differs according to the duration of fermentation, which varies from a day up to more than a year.

Suka

A derivative from tuba, suka (vinegar) is a fermented coconut juice. Argao is also one of the leading makers of the sourest vinegar after it is allowed to stay for an extended period of time. It is perfect in adding piquancy to every cuisine you prepare such as sweet and sour, "paksiw", and "kinilaw".
