My Ears Keep Popping When I Swallow - Eight Odd Remedies That Work

My Ears Keep Popping When I Swallow

One of my father's favorite home remedy is to suggest that you stand on your head in the corner and gargle peanut butter. This invariably gets a small giggle and the questioner goes of to find someone else to answer the question or solve the problem. Naturally, he doesn't do this for serious things, but the sillier stuff will likely receive that reply.

However, that solution only works for him, it does not solve the other party's problem. These remedies should work for most people, although a few of them may require checking with your doctor to be sure it won't cause you any problems.

1) Almond Oil: This is popular with massage therapists, as it is both lubricating and beneficial to the body. That's not such an odd use, but this qualifies: it may help stop ear aches. There are two methods of using this, but I only recommend one, as the other can be dangerous. The safer method is to pour a teaspoon of the oil into the ear and then insert a cotton ball to keep it there.

The less safe method is to warm the oil slightly by running one lit cardboard match under the spoon. As it is tempting to use a lighter, I suggest you don't heat it. If it gets too hot, it could damage your hearing. This is one of the remedies you should clear with your doctor (or your child's pediatrician) before administering.

2) Avocado Peel: Actually, it's the flesh left on the inside of the peel, but it's easier to apply with the peel attached...and less messy. If you have cracked heels, take the peel and rub the inside on and around the cracks. Leave it on for twenty minutes, then rinse it off. Repeat as needed over the next few days until the cracks heal up. My Ears Keep Popping When I Swallow

3) Black Walnuts: The green hulls of the unripened nuts are the useful part in this case. If you have poison ivy (or its itchy counterparts), slice into the hull and rub the juice on the rash. Do this with care, as the juice will stain everything it touches a nice, rich brown.

4) Cloves: The best way to use this remedy is to buy the oil, but the clove itself will also work. When you have a sensitive tooth, apply a little clove oil, or chew a clove itself and make sure it gets onto the sensitive area. Be careful, as it may cause a bit of a burning sensation and it could burn your gums a little. The chemical eugenol is in this spice, and it is a topical anesthetic. This won't replace a trip to the dentist, but it will give you a little natural relief until you get there.

5) Grape Seeds: Whether you use the standardized formulas, grape seed oil or just plain chew and swallow grapes and seeds, you can do your body a lot of good. Studies indicate that the seeds may help deal with heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and even cancer. If you choose to eat the seeds, be sure to chew them a little first, as they are too hard to be digested otherwise and will pass through without providing any health benefits. 6) Onions: If you have a bruise, a raw onion may help you heal faster. The easiest method is to tie a slice of raw onion over the bruise and leave it at least six hours. When you remove the onion, the bruise should be better. You can also mix diced raw onion with salt and tie it on the bruise. Leave it for the same length of time. Many people say that the salt method is the better of the two.

7) Potatoes: Are you out of aloe? Small burns can also be treated with scrapings from a raw potato. The water content will help take the heat out of the burn without sealing it in, and it may also help ease the pain.

8) Tobacco: While smoking is dangerous, tobacco does have one other possible benefit. It may rival baking soda as a drawing agent. Place dampened tobacco over a sting or insect bite to help draw out the venom and ease the pain. My Ears Keep Popping When I Swallow
