Stress is simply a fact of nature -- forces from the inside or outside world affecting the individual. The individual responds to stress in ways that affect the individual as well as their environment.

What is Stress

Stress is emotional and physical strain caused by our respond to pressure from real or perceived events that occurs in our every day lives. . Common stress reactions include tension, irritability, loss of concentration, and a variety of physical symptoms like stomach cramp, headaches, chest pain among others. Stress response is the body's way of protecting you. Stress when working properly can help you stay alert, focused and energetic. But beyond a certain level, stress stop being helpful and starts to cause major heath problem. It can affect your quality of life.

Causes Stress

The situations and pressures that cause stress are known as stressors. Stressors are not necessary negative. They can be positive events such as getting married, having a baby or going to college. Broadly speaking, anything that puts high demands on you or forces you to adjust can cause stress. Some causes stress depends, at least in part, on your view of the situation. Something that is stressful to you may not faze someone else; they may even enjoy it.

Effects of Stress

Stress can affect both your body and your mind. People who are under large amounts of stress can become tired, sick, and unable to concentrate. Sometimes, they even suffer mental breakdowns. Some of the effects of stress include

1. Causes chronic fatigue, digestive upsets, headaches, and back pain.

2. Constant stress can increase blood pressure and can increase the risk for stroke.

3. Increase the danger of heart attacks, particularly if you are often angry and mistrustful.

4. Can affect the blood cells that help you fight off infection, so you are more likely to get coldsand other diseases.

How to Manage Stress

A common method for stress management is called the TARP method. If you look up in the dictionary, a tarp is a protective cover thrown over something to protect it from the element. Likewise, The TARP method offers protection against the distressing and sometimes harmful effects of stress.

When faced with a stressful situation. Stay calm. Know the stressor and deal with it accordingly. The worst thing you can do is to go the opposite direction rather than face it head on. If you lead a stress life. Try starting a stress journal. It work as a stress reliever because you are writing you how you deal with stress. And it also work as a reference guide if you face similar situation in the future.
