Break ups are very hard to deal with, but they are even harder when you still have to see your ex at places you two frequently go to. If this sounds like you, then there are ways to deal with your ex while in public.
Be cool and composed: When dealing with your ex, especially in public, stay composed and normal. You still may have certain feelings towards your ex, but you don't want that to show. You don't want any awkwardness or uncomfortableness to come between you and your ex. Both of you will end up feeling very uneasy in your interaction, which will not benefit either of you.
Always be friendly: It is important to remain friendly with your ex. This may be hard to do for some people, especially when the pain of the break up is still fresh. If you two go to the same places often, then being cordial towards one another is the best thing to do.
Don't follow them or watch them for long periods of time: When you are at the same building as your ex, act as though everything is normal. Don't follow them where ever they are going and don't stare at them. You will make it so obvious to other people, as well as your ex, that you are not quite over them. Also, if your ex catches you staring and following them around, it could conjure up a lot of awkwardness, making the both of you feel very uneasy. You don't want your feelings to look painfully obvious. Act as though nothing happened between your ex and yourself.
Do not bash your ex to other folks that you are around: You may still be coping with the break up, and that's OK. One of the reasons why break ups are hard to deal with is because you still have very raw feelings towards the person that you broke up with. However, if you are around other people, especially people that your ex has to hang around with as well, bashing them and saying other negative things could not only make your ex look bad, but you as well. Plus all of that will get around to your ex, and you don't want anymore awkwardness and animosity between you two, if there was any to begin with.
Keep your contact with them short: If you must interact with them, keep it brief. Always contacting your ex and for long periods of time will not help you in getting over them or the break up.
Don't bring up the relationship: While talking to your ex, steer clear of the relationship topic. Keep the conversation light. If you have to speak to them at school or at your job, it would be best to just talk about things related to that. Things may be a bit sensitive between you and your ex, so keep everything light, at least until you two feel a lot more comfortable with each other again.
