People with disabilities or that are confined to a wheelchair suffer much more than just limited mobility. There's a sense of needing and becoming dependent on other people when you can't do the little things for yourself anymore, and that can have a very negative impact on one's quality of life. Fortunately, advances are being made every day specifically to allow those with disabilities to become more independent and allow them to start living their own lives again! Bathtub and showertransferbenches are one just one product that's becoming widely available; handicap pool lifts are another.
These two products do work very similarly, but they do have very different purposes. They are both designed to allow those with limited mobility to move in and out of areas such as bathtubs, showers, and pools. Bathtub and shower transfer benches are designed to be a bench that sits on the side of the bathtub. The bench is large enough so that it hangs over the inside of the bathtub, as well as the outside of the bathtub. Both parts of the bench are large enough so that a person can sit comfortably on one side and easily slide over to the other side, whether they're trying to get in or out of the tub or shower. Bathtub and shower transfer benches are especially useful for those that are in wheelchairs, the elderly, or anyone who finds excessive movement painful or difficult.
Handicap pool lifts work in much the same way, helping people get in and out of pools, but they do operate somewhat differently. Handicap pool lifts are built with mini-cranes that are attached to a seat that is typically plastic or canvas. A person can easily move into the seat while outside the pool even from a seated position such as when a person is in a wheelchair. Once in the chair, the crane will then gently lower the seat into the pool, where you can easily move out of it. Some lifts will keep the seat slightly suspended over the same area of water while others can be adjusted so that the seat moves over to the side and is not in the way while you're in the pool. The added benefit with handicap poollifts is that water is a great place for a person with disabilities to exercise because the water makes it less painful and allows for easier movement.
