Memory Card Market Growing Fast

A recent analysis from the independent research firm Frost & Sullivan shows that the digital memory card market is showing signs of strength, despite the rough economic downturn that many companies have been experiencing in the past few years. This seems to be due to the increasing popularity of digital cameras, along with the rise of smart phones and the decline of prices for both. The research, called "World Secure Digital Memory Cards Market," concludes that even though the market for digital memory cards has been showing a good amount of revenue in the past two years, it is still projected to grow by 15.8 percent during the next forecasting period. The research lays out some interesting pieces of information. Apparently, 270 million smart phones were sold in 2010. This is more than a 50 percent rise from the previous year. This also increased the number of Micro SC slots available, which means that the market for digital memory cards is bound to grow. In an interview with Gadgets.tmcnet.com, Research Analyst Mariano Kimbara points out that, "The mobile market is still developing and has a lot of room for SD memory cards. The increasing shipments of smart phones that contain Micro SD slots are expected to generate high demand for SD memory cards in the next three years." This means that the market will expand from 645 million in 2009, to 1093 million units in 2013.One more thing to keep in mind is that cell phones usually come with memory cards that are small in capacity. Users tend to buy upgraded memory cards that can store more than the initial amount they receive with their phone. The research also finds that customers are looking for innovative and customized lines of SD Memory cards that can integrate with their devices at a competitive price. Kimbara continues to say, "In a market where cost effectiveness always ranks high, the price of SD memory cards has been reducing by a rate of 30 percent every year. Therefore, several leading companies have a strong execution in X3 technology."This market seems to be in a growing phase and has the potential to become a major player in the digital world. With customers taking more photos in higher quality, the need for storage space seems to be a key factor in the industry. We will soon see what companies will prevail as the leaders of digital storage.
