Fire accidents is one of the calamities most, if not all people fear the most. This is because blazes do not only have the capacity to take away your personal belongings but it also has the capability to create emotional scars as well. How? Because more than material things, the flames can easily engulf your loved ones and take them away from you. And nothing can be harder to deal with emotionally than death. As such we (including myself) must do everything in our power to keep our homes and/ or our offices free from blazes.
Securing safety is not really that hard. Your little efforts can in turn do a lot. Here is a sample of "those" little efforts that you can do at home.
Do your housekeeping regularly. Discard or donate the things that you do not use anymore. Keeping your house/ office clean is very important because clutters, especially paper and other easily combustible materials can serve as fuel that will make flames easily spread.
Make sure the home's electrical wirings are just fine. Keep in mind that short circuits are among the common causes of household fires.
In relation to tip #2, you can also minimize electrical fires by turning your appliances off and removing their plugs from their outlets when you are not using them. Keeping them plugged in not only makes them consume more energy but it also makes them prone to overheating
Have your gas lines regularly checked and maintained. Any leaks in them can either cause two things, carbon monoxide poisoning and/ or blazes both of which are fatal.
Put lighters or any other sources of fire away from the hands of children. Children being as naturally playful as they are, they can easily turn a harmless lighter to something that can cause you a lot of trouble.
If you live in an area where the temperature is hot, extend your fire prevention efforts outside. Rake dry leaves and discard them as soon as you can. Keeping them out of your yard is important because those things can easily fuel the slightest spark.
If you are a fan of using scented candles as a form of relaxation, then invest in a proper candle holder that is enough to confine/ control the candle's flame. This way, you will have a wall that will somehow protect flames from catching into anything that they may come into contact with. Also make sure that you do not leave your lighted candle unattended.
Focus when you are cooking especially when you are dealing with kitchen fat. This is important because when cooking oil gets too hot, it can easily burst into flames.
Invest in one or two firefighting tools at home such as a fire safety extinguisher or a fire blanket. These can help you control or stop small scale blazes.
Lastly, make sure that everyone in your home knows what fire is, what it can do and how it can be stopped. Those bits of information will definitely help them become more aware of their surroundings and their actions as well.
And those are 10 simple tips that you can apply at home and in your workplace. Again, they seem to be little things but if you do all of them, they can go a long way.
