Since gathering professions give exp now (At least Herbs, and mining does) it helps to have a good route where you can not only get a lot of material, but also some good exp!
Some people may argue that places like Deepholm is better for Obsidium then Hyjal is. But I say they are wrong. The other night, in Hyjal, I spent fort-five minutes mining, and wound up with four stacks of Obsidium Ore. Now, I leveled in Deepholm for hours on end, and I NEVER found enough Obsidium to get four stacks worth in such a little amount of time. For those of you who what its like to spend time gathering stuff, you know that the amount of ore I got, in that amount of time, is a lot.
Another good reason to pick Hyjal, is because its not so wet. The only other option, if you're a low level (Such as 81 or 82) is Vashj'ir, which is all underwater. I don't know about you, but I'd rather fly and mine, then swim.
The first good place to start, is the Grove of Cinders. If you look at your map, you'll see that the grove is a large circle. A lap or two here, usually nets me five nodes, and its a small area, so the route is fast.
Next, do the same with the Shrine of Goldrinn. Circle the area a few times, and see what comes up. Remember to go into the ogre cave as well. Its a pain, but there's always three to five nodes in there as well. Watch out for the Ogre in the middle of the cave though, he has over one hundred thousand health, and doesn't die easily.
Once you're done in the cave, go back to the Shrine of Goldrinn, and follow the rock wall West, towards the Shrine of Aessina (Not sure if thats the proper spelling), and keep heading West. Not far past the Shrine of Aessina, you'll come to wooded area. Ignore it, and keep flying till you hit the mountain wall again.
Follow the wall south, then East towards the Sanctuary of Malorne.
Continue on East following the rocks as you go, until you hit the Seat of the Chosen. Do another small circle of that area, then head south-east towards Sulfuron Spire. Circle the outer rock wall, then make your way back to the Grove of Cinders.
