When you think "healthy foods", you should automatically think healthy fats. The food that comes to my mind first when thinking of this is peanut butter. Peanut butter is rich in the healthy fats. It is a great source of protein as well. Also, nuts are rich in the healthy fats. This includes almonds, walnuts, and peanuts. We all know that protein keeps us feeling fuller longer, and is also important for building muscle. Fish is another food that has the healthy fats. Fish is great for losing weight because it helps to speed up fat burn. This is done because of the iodine present in fish. My favorite type of fish is wild salmon, but other types of fish are beneficial, just as long as they are not high in mercury.

Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats are also present in the "good carbohydrates", meaning those that are whole-grains or whole-wheats. Many cereals, such as Cheerios and Total, contain a large amount of these healthy fats. Many brands of whole-wheat breads also contain these healthy fats. One rule of thumb is that if a food product has high fiber, is low in calories and sugar, and has little or no bad fats (meaning trans and saturated fats), it is most likely a food with healthy fats, and is therefore healthy for you.

Just as with anything else, even healthy foods with the good fats should be consumed in moderation. Just because a food is healthy, too much is always a bad idea. You cannot go crazy with these foods, especially foods with protein. This could lead to constipation and other illnesses likekidney stonesor gallstones. Protein is healthy, but you have to remember to drink plenty of water while consuming it. Also, do not rule out other foods. Diets with a lot of protein such as theAtkins diet are not something that sits well with me, because I cannot limit myself that much.

Remember, when you are shopping for food, look at the nutrition label. Check to see the amount of good fats. This is located right underneath the bad fats. The higher the number, the better the food is for you.
