Vitali was born in bologna in 1663 and really is only known for one piece of music, but the irony is that he almost certainly did not write it. Vitali studied in Modena under Antonio Maria Pacchioni, he worked at este court orchestra from 1675 to 1742. He taught there, and his pupils includedEvaristo Felice dall'Abaco, Jean Baptiste Senaill, Girolamo Nicol Laurenti and Luca Antonio Predieri.
I can only give my feelings and thoughts on this piece of music, as you may feel something entirely different on listening to it. As it starts out you just have an open mind, and it progresses through to about the middle of the chaconne. This for me is where it starts to get really interesting, and the whole range of emotions come into play.
As i have stated elsewhere, a whole feeling of "musical pleading" overcomes me. Along with almost "caricature" images in the knelt praying position with hands together and held aloft pointng skyward. I hope in sharing these personal experiences with you, it will encourage you to listen and let your observations and emotional feelings talk to you. It can astound you!
After the middle of this peice, it carries on the emotion and almost gives you some kind of call to action. I have not yet figured out what that is for myself yet, but it is truly there if you go with the flow and listen carefully. Finally comes the build up to the final crescendo, which
actually takes you on another rollercoaster ride in its own right. But it has to be said a marvelous one indeed.
I have listened to a lot of versions of vitali,s chaconne, and i have come up with theultimate version for me. It is without a doubt in my mind when i tell you, the version that really makes it " a complete experience" for me is the one played by sarah chang. Her playing and "violinists dance" just gets to me every time, and i dont mind telling you tears ineviteably flow.
The talking is over now and the start button is ready to push, where will your journey take you with this incredible piece of music ?.
