The Lagoon in The Region Of Albufeira in Portugal

This charismatic fishing town, of which the name in Arabic, means The Lagoon, is in the Algarve region of Portugal, and is a well known and leading tourist resort in Portugal. In ancient times it was a busy trading port, but sadly, had declined into a poor fishing town during the 18th Century, for by this time, the effects of civil wars and tidal waves had taken their toll on most of Portugal.

Since the 1960's however, when the tourist boom was born, the innumerable apartments and hotels within the area, many of which are close to the beautiful and fully modernised marina. The marina from which the town's name was born, and all of the buildings have the full rich history of their past rebuilt into them, from their foundations up. The buildings are offering glorious traditional look and character for fabulous holidays in Albufeira.

The architecture exudes an ambiencewhere one can spend an incredible holiday, and is naturally blended with the typical narrow streets and the more modern buildings. As a contradiction in termshowever, there is a modern block ofbuildingswhich has been given the nick name of Lego land, due to its bright pinks, blues and yellows, and which is also very close to the newly built Marina e Bryn.

Beware however, because the Beach of Bryn, otherwise known as Fishermans Beach, can become very crowded in this increasingly popular holiday resort with many villas in Albufeira. For those who would prefer to slowly wander down the path of ancient and timeless history, then let them watch the weather beaten faces of the fisherman on the beach, as they mend their nets, totally oblivious to the topless bathers around them working very hard at their hobbies.

Examine the build of their fishing vessels, a design untouched, having been perfected over 1000's of years of their sea going experience which has been passed on through many generations. There are 23 beaches along this area to choose from, all with their own unique and natural qualities with which to satisfy your every need. It's a great location to experience fabulous variety of water sports on one of the many sandy beaches.

Or, you can visit the Xorino Cave, which served as a shelter to the fugitive Moors during the Crusades.
