I expected worse than this french thriller I already knew made in the American manner. I remember Fred Cavay's previous feature - POUR ELLE - a fairly good acted, directed and edited movie, but with such a predictable storyline. With the (un)avoidable happy ending as I HATE. Cavay is a gifted director who, I think, wastes his talent with so foreseeable topics. But I must admit that this film is far better than POUR ELLE, concerning the story, I mean. The rest is equal. We find here the scheme, again, of an ordinary couple - man and wife - trapped in a brutal and squeezy story. We can watch here a powerful action packed thriller, as we not often find in french features. I have to get back to NID DE GUPES to be so scratched at the seat...

A high speed crime flick with some unusual and surprising sequences. And I don't speak of the characters. Rochdy Zem as a gangster and Lanvin absolutely terrific as a renegade cop. I had never seen him like this before. Yes, you're stuck to your seat all long this wonderful film.
But, I repeat, that's such a shame that Cavay style is too close to the US one, with those f...happy endings for sissy audiences.
It lacks brutality and darkness. Pain...It lacks pain.
Rochdy Zem's character, as Sartet, is the same name Alain Delon had in THE SICILIAN CLAN, Henri Verneuil's masterpiece. He was the public enemy number one. Raymond Pellegrin was the same Sartet in BRIGADE ANTI GANG, which was inspired from a Auguste Le Breton's novel too. A prequel to SICILIAN CLAN.
