Beginning of Hotels in Las Vegas:

The first hotel that opened in Las Vegas was El Rancho in 1941 a modest hotel with 63 rooms. In 1942, the hotel industry in Las Vegas began changing when the second hotel, Last Frontier, made its debut on the Strip.

Things changed completely in 1946 when the perennial Flamingo made its mark in the city. The Flamingo soon came to known as the "pink hotel" of the city. The Miami Beach theme of the hotel marked the beginning of theme hotels in Las Vegas. The hotel was a spark that ignited the development of this world-class city that continued with the arrival of mobsters like Bugsy Siegel who put the sin into "Sin City" as well as a whole lot of mob money with his landmark casino, The Flamingo.

This gave way to a huge boom in the 1950s that saw such the construction of such iconic names as the Desert Inn, The Riviera, and The Sands. Vegas' success as a tourist destination later spawned an influx of corporate money, personified by billionaire Howard Hughes that began to crowd the gangsters out.

Ever since the entertainment business started in Las Vegas in 1941 with the modest, but successful, El Rancho, hotels have been big business Las Vegas. Since the El Rancho made its appearance on what has come to be known as the Las Vegas Strip, billions upon billions of dollars have been investing in producing ever more opulent hotels and resorts. Today there are over 30 luxury hotels and mega resorts on the ever-changing Strip.

Changes in Hotels in Las Vegas:

Many Las Vegas hotels have come and gone. Indeed, the Strip seems to be practically remade every decade or so. Some of the iconic hotels that have been demolished include Desert Inn, The Dunes, The Silver Slipper, The Stardust, The Landmark and The Sands.

Book Your Hotel Rooms:

Though there are many hotels in the city of Las Vegas, whenever you plan to visit make sure that you choose carefully. Each Las Vegas hotel has its own personality and be sure to keep an eye out for hotel deals. Some hotels will dramatically cut rates during low season.
