The fight among people in corporate is very common. People management is a very big task and that is why HR departments assume greater importance in corporate. The fight can be between two departments or between two or a few individuals. Problem between individuals within the same department is also very common.
The war between people within the same department is more common than between two separate departments. To have war with other department, unity among people of one department is largely required and such unity is a rare possibility in most corporate. Hence conflicts between two departments are relatively rare.
Why such conflicts occur. Is there any permanent solution to it? Conflicts are very common among animals. Territorial fight in animals can be fatal too. Most animals maintain their territory and defend them. Territorial marking/scent marking is a very common territorial behaviour among animals. Interestingly, territorial war is very common among animals of the same species than between different species. Although fights do occur between animals of different species.
A pack of hyena or pride of lion always challenge and get challenged by the pack or pride of other hyena or lion group. Whereas, entry of a heard of buffaloes or elephants to their area considered less threat by these animals. Here lies the secret for all commotions in corporate world.
Every employee knowingly or unknowingly architects a territory of their own. Usually, people narrow down their area. Any new employee join the organization and likely to work in the similar field/area, these people get threatened. They feel they might loose their recognition and significance as other person might walk away with all credits. This is exactly the same as how animals defend their territory. They question the intruder so is the employee in corporate. Any one offering any new idea is also treated as a threat by the people.
More often, people become territorial in the organization and absolutely lack home range which is contrary to the animal world as animals has a home range. Survival of all the territory loving animals comes only with home range. If one animal refuse to move away from its territory, will necessarily perish. This is what corporate employees must understand. Only when they move away from their field of specialization other related fields, they will learn the existence of many fascinating aspects like how animals get their hunt only if they out of their territory. If one wants to grow by leaps and bounds, expanding the territory and having a large home range is must. Leaders do but managers seldom realize that.
