A chain sprocket is a profiled wheel with teeth that meshes with a chain or other perforated or indented material. Chain sprocket is distinguished from a gear in the way that sprockets are never meshed together directly. Chain sprockets are different form pulleys in a way that sprockets have teeth and pulleys are smooth. Thechain sprocket hobs can be made of Mild steel, Stainless steel and Alloy steel. Chain sprockets are widely used in bicycles, motorcycles, cars and other machinery. Chain sprockets are nothing but toothed wheels that are mounted on chains with gaps for smooth movement. Chain sprockets typically do not have a flange. But some sprockets used with timing belt have flanges to keep the timing belt centered.
Timing pulley hobs are used for timing pulleys with straight sided or involute teeth for rubber timing belt pulleys, polyurethane metric timing belt pulleys, HDT and STD profiles. Timing belt pulleys hobs have been manufactured to cut various types of timing pulleys like, Syncroflex, Uniroyal, powergrip GP, HDT etc. Timing pulley hobs started with a trapezoidal shape of teeth, known as the Power grip series. These then gave way to HTD belts, which can transmit much higher power for a given size. Many workshops with hobbing facilities also carry hobs for cutting standard timing belt teeth.
Timing pulley hobs are available in machine relived and ground tooth finish. Timing pulley hobs have been manufactured in standard and non-standard specifications as per the requirements of the clients. Timing pulley hobs started with a trapezoidal shape of teeth, known as the Power grip series. These then gave way to HTD belts, which can transmit much higher power for a given size.
Involute gear hobs can be used in generating gears with maximum precision. These are especially used when there would be no tooth finishing operation afterwards and there is need for better precision before tooth shaving operations. Involute gear hobs used to create gears with high accuracy with finishing, pre-grinding and pre-shaving. They are normally specified for processes, where no subsequent tooth finishing operations are required to perform.
Involute gear hobs are used for cutting all types of engine and transmission gears used in automotive sector. Involute gear hobs are also used for cutting gears used in different sectors like rolling, textile and sugar. The involute gear hobs are very popular in heavy industry. Geometrically involute gear hobs can be generated by the locus of the end point of a virtual taut string unwinding from its circular roll.
