If you are a swimmer and have glasses or contact lenses, then using prescription swim goggles may be just what you need. Most people try to swim and even snorkel with their contacts in, while using regular goggles. And while this works some of the times, what happens when the goggles leak a little bit and either the salt water or chlorine gets in your eyes? Not very fun dealing with the contacts at that point. This is why there are prescription swim goggles you can get.
There are 3 things I would look at when buying these goggles.
The first one is to ensure the lens is a flat, aspherical lens. This will help to prevent the distortion look while underwater that some of the rounder lenses have. A flat lens gives you a clear and real perspective of the pool.
The second thing is to ensure there is a nice silicone seal around the edges of the goggles. Preventing water from entering is very important. Some goggles have regular rubber seals, but these eventually tear and get beaten up. At which point, they begin to leak. Stick with the silicone.
And, lastly, just make sure they look cool. You do not want to look goofy just because you are wearing prescription swim goggles. You basically do not want anyone to even be able to tell the difference. Take you time when looking for these and you will find the right pair. I especially like the blue lens that comes with some of them. They have a very cool look to them.
Just because you have contacts or glasses should not be a problem when swimming. You should try to eliminate any of the concerns you may have outside of swimming. This will then allow you to just completely focus on the task at hand: swimming. All of the other stuff can just go down the drain (pun intended).
Whether you are in competitive swimming, or just backyard swimming, ensure you are using the best swimming goggles available. And if you need help with your eyesight while swimming, then maybe some prescription swim goggles will do the trick.
In any case, just try to have the right equipment for the right job.
