The few years prior to World War II saw the beginning of operations for Turkish Airlines, more specifically in May of 1933. The beginning of the operation was anything but impressive as they only had 4 planes that could carry a maximum of 23 people. They did not add another aircraft to their fleet until 1945. They recently received one of the twelve Boeing 777-300ER airplanes they ordered, which is a highly advanced long-haul aircraft. Profits and expanded routes have been steadily increasing each year for at least the past five years. It certainly seems that Turkish Airlines has learned many lessons since their early days of flying less than twenty five passengers at a time.
In October 2010 Turkish Airlines announced that it would continue to expand its operations during 2011. Quite naturally, for an airline that is growing extremely fast, this is sensational news. The Turkish Ministry of Transport released information that the airlines would have eleven new locations this year. There will be four new flights going to Shiraz, Iran starting in the middle of March. In reference to the United States, there will be 4 new flights a week going to Los Angeles, CA beginning in early March. This is good news if you are going to the west cost of the US. Turkish Airlines will also be going to the countries of China, Greece, Spain, France and 3 other locations in Italy.
In late 2010, Turkish Airlines inked a most interesting marketing deal with the world's number one ranked women's tennis player, Caroline Wozniacki.
This level of brand recognition is a strong effort by the airline to be viewed seriously on an international level. Miss Wozniacki is specifically set to represent the airlines Business Class Service. The targeted audience for this representation is intended to be European tennis fans who will immediately recognize and relate to the women's number one ranked tennis player. She will be appearing in various commercials and public relations events for the airline throughout her three year contract.
Turkish Airlines has created a new style of travel called Comfort Class. The airlines new Boeing 777 aircraft are the only ones where this service is available. The level of comfort available is taken to a whole new level with seats that are almost 46 inches wide. Passengers basically have four feet of seat available to them for themselves and anything else they have with them on the flight. Remember though, that the Boeing 777 is a large aircraft designed mainly for intercontinental flights. Anyone who is part of the Turkish Airlines Miles and Smiles program can redeem their points for a seat in Comfort Class.
Turkish Airlines have reaped the benefits of diversifying their strong marketing efforts.
Any successful business understands the logic behind putting this basic principle to good use. But still many businesses don't seem to grasp the concept of reinvesting in their own growth, as Turkish Airlines so obviously have. In this case, it's not just the airline that has increased in strength and branding, but passengers also get to enjoy the benefits too.
