MBAUniverse.com Exclusive: Highlights of Placements 2011

MBAUniverse.com has kept track of all placement proceedings as they have taken place in premier B Schools this year, including IIMs and the likes of XLRI, FMS, SJMSOM, MDI, and many more. In order to analyze the whole placement process till now, we have zeroed in on all significant details available and herewith present a comprehensive report. Read further to know more about the facts and figures of Placements 2011:

IIM Bangalore: Over the duration of the process, 105 companies made their presence felt on campus and recruited students in large numbers. 35 of these companies were first time recruiters. A total of 461 offers were made from the visiting companies. Of these, 84 were Pre-Placement offers made to students based on their summer internships. Close to 36 % of the offers came from the Finance sector making it the largest segment.

Firms from the Consulting sector accounted for 31% of the offers. Around 21% of the offers were made in Sales & Marketing, and approximately 7 % of the offers came from the General Management sector, with the balance 6% of the offers coming from the Operations & Product Management sector. Participating firms offered assignments in India as well as abroad, including postings in Singapore, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Dubai, New York and London.

IIM Kozhikode: The B School placed 290 students in 120 firms. The average domestic salary increased by about 30 per cent. The number of job offers per company also increased by 30 per cent. Deloitte and ICICI Bank were the largest recruiters with each making 16 offers. The highest International package of USD 150,000 was offered by a commodities trading company while the highest domestic compensation was offered by a Europe-based Investment Bank. The participating firms included prominent financial institutions and consultancy firms, the biggest FMCG and consumer durable companies, fast growing commodity trading companies, India's largest conglomerates and globally renowned IT firms.

FMS Delhi: Bolstered by a buoyant market, and on the back of strong industry connections and a strong alumni network, the average domestic salary at FMS rose by almost 18% over last year, while the highest domestic package rose by almost 24%. The average domestic salary was Rs. 15.4 per annum. The average domestic salary of lateral offers was Rs. 16.5 annum. The highest domestic package was Rs. 26 annum and the highest international package (USD per annum) was 150,000.

MDI Gurgaon: More than 100 companies evinced interest in recruiting from the 235 students who had enrolled for the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM). The highest domestic salary for PGPM this year is a whopping INR 21 lakh, as compared to Rs 18.53 lakh last year. The average salary is INR 13.50 lakh and the median salary is INR 12.04 lakh.

The list of companies represents corporate straddling almost all the sectors of the Indian economy: banking, consulting, financial services, investment banking, FMCG, media, manufacturing, IT, pharmaceuticals, retail and telecom. The PGPM recruiters included Accenture, Asian Paints, American Express, Axis Bank, Bharti, Biocon, Castrol, Citigroup, Coca Cola, Cognizant, Dabur, Deloitte, Godrej, Goldman Sachs, HP, HSBC, ICICI, ITC, J P Morgan Chase, Mahindra & Mahindra, Nomura, Proctor & Gamble, Pepsi, Phillips, Ranbaxy, Raymonds, RBI, Religare, SBI Capital, Standard Chartered Bank, Videocon and Yes Bank among others.

TAPMI Manipal: The highest salary was Rs. 13.5 Lakh, which has seen an increase of about 45 per cent over last year's highest salary. The average salary is Rs. 8 Lakh and the lowest salary is Rs. 5.9 Lakh. TAPMI mentions that the lowest salary has seen an increase of about 50 per cent.

The majority of recruitments have been in the sector of IT/ITES, Banking and Financial Services. In this sector, 73 students have been recruited. This year has seen a rise in the number of profiles in the consulting sector. The other sectors in which the students have been recruited are FMCG, Healthcare/Pharmaceuticals, Manufacturing and Services.
