There is nothing esoteric or magical about hypnosis. You may not be aware of it, but you use it constantly. You have hypnotized yourself into the beliefs you have in this present moment. Despite this fact, it is important to understand that your subconscious mind is not a sponge that will accept any suggestion, whether or not it would be good for your conscious, reasoning self.
Structured hypnosis just creates an accelerated version that shows us how our beliefs affect our thinking and our actions. It gives us a perfect example of the instantaneous results that are actually possible when new, positive beliefs cancel out former, limiting beliefs and patterns of thought.
I personally use an inexpensive but high-quality binaural recording when I practice the following method, but even without that advantage, it will work. It's just that it will probably take a little longer for your new hypnotic suggestions to sink in thoroughly.
1. Choose the Hypnotic Suggestion You Want to Replace Your Present, Limiting Belief
This should be a simple, short (under 12 words works best), positive statement that encapsulates the new belief you want to express in your experience.
2. Relax
Make yourself comfortable, but do not lie down. Close yourself off from all the extraneous data that your conscious senses are bringing you, and slowly begin to narrow your area of concentration. As you are bringing your focus in line with what you are trying to do, remind yourself that you are using the power of the present to cancel out your old belief with this new one.
3. Concentrate
For a five minute period of time only, concentrate all of your attention on the statement you chose. Go over and over it while you concentrate on it as vividly and thoroughly as you possibly can. If your mind becomes distracted, try to emotionalize the statement in some way. Change the images you are holding in your mind to images that are in agreement with your chosen hypnotic statement.
Do not continue past 5 minutes. The reason for this is that to do so will give your mind time to begin to try and argue with your statement, and remind you of all the difficulties involved. You might need to change the wording of your statement, so don't hesitate if, after 3 days, you don't see any results. The reason I say this is because within 3 days you would ordinarily begin to experience some kind of results from this concentrated form of self hypnosis.
As a small caveat, if you experience fantastic results after a few days (and it often happens), it is vital that you continue for at least a month with this exercise. Remember, you are re-patterning your past in the present, and you want to be sure that the new pattern is rock solid.
