Think back to when you were a small child. I'm sure you remember having had out of body experiences quite often. You may not have known the terms, like Astral Projection, - but I'm positive you remember the feeling of flying.
You never stopped having those out of body experiences; it's just that your adult, reasoning mind sees no value in Astral Projection, so whether or not you experienced it during the night, upon awakening your conscious mind guards you from those memories.
To your egotistical, conscious mind, the feelings of freedom and elation have nothing to do with day-to-day living, and are therefore an unnecessary distraction.
But if you are reading this article, you know how valuable Astral Projection can be.
The following technique works either before retiring for the night, or if you just decide to take a nap.
1. Go to Your Alpha Level
Your Alpha Level is an altered state of consciousness that works as a bridge between your conscious and unconscious minds. It is a state of deep relaxation while at the same time you are consciously in control of your thoughts and images.
One effective trick I have learned over the years is to start off in a comfortable, sitting position, look straight ahead, direct my eyes upwards at a 45-degree angle, and then close my eyes. Still holding my eyes in that same position, I lay back on my bed.
2. Count Backwards
Continue to relax by counting backwards, slowly, from 20 to 1. Tell yourself with every count that you are becoming more relaxed while still conscious with every count. Breathe in deeply and exhale slowly, more slowly with each count. You will begin to sense or see your mind, still with a tenuous grasp of this reality, entering another state of consciousness.
3. Create a Separation Trigger
Feel yourself rising upwards. This is the hardest part, and it will take a bit of practice, but imagine yourself looking down at you, lying on the bed. Go over every detail. At first, this will be just your imagination, but after a few attempts, you will find yourself fully awake at another level of reality, and looking down at your relaxed and sleeping self.
This means that your Astral Body has successfully separated from your physical body, while at the same time fully conscious of both its and your surroundings.
Sometimes, just this realization will cause a 'jump' and your Astral Body will return immediately to your physical body. After the first few times, however, the newness and possible apprehension involved will have worn off.
Once you have got this exercise down pat, you will find yourself able to have an out of body experience at will, and you will experience the feelings of exultation in the knowledge that yes, you can 'fly' anywhere you want to, including the Astral Plane.
