Kings of Leon Tickets Excited for the Fun That Is to Come

If you thought the Kings of Leon were fun before, just wait until their next album release. The boys are back with their fifth studio set this year and promised MTV just a few weeks ago that the yet-to-be-titled release is all about "fun." A follow-up to their breakout hit Only by the Night in 2008, the album will see the boys traveling across the globe as they jet out on a summer tour beginning early June, featuring several festival performances. "[The new album] has got songs that are beachy, it's songs that are a little more like our [debut] Youth and Young Manhood dayswe're super excited," said Nathan Followill during an MTV Radio interview.

So excited, in fact, the boys aren't sure they will be able to contain their excitement pre-release date. With a headlining slot at the 2010 Bonnaroo Festival for the middle of June, Followill adds, "It'll be tough not to play the whole [album] at Bonnaroo." Recording the new release in unfamiliar spaces namely New York rather than their familiar Los Angeles or hometown of Nashvillethe Followills found something they weren't expecting. "[This is] the first time we'd ever recorded in New York City, and we thought we'd come out with a little more darker record, because we had done all our records either in Nashville or L.A., where it's a little more chilled out, not as much hustle and bustle," drummer Followill continued during a Bonnaroo conference. Instead, Nathan reveals that the result was a fun, mellow album something totally unique. Though there isn't a release date or name yet, the group is still expected to jump into their tour June 5th.

Though Only by the Night was the group's fourth full length, it was their first mainstream breakout that earned them a Grammy Award and Billboard fame. Growing up in Nashville, the Followill brothers Caleb, Nathan, Jared and cousin Matthew created the group in 2000. Their sound was exactly the opposite of what their evangelist father had taught them to listen to while traveling through the nation's Pentecostal churches. Their passion for rock and roll quickly earned them a record deal with RCA and a connection with Nashville producer Angelo Petraglia. Petraglia is the man hailed as the "fifth member" of Kings of Leon who helped produce 2003's Holy Roller Novocaine and is currently working on their fifth untitled release.

The group toured consistently but didn't see success until 2004's Aha Shake Heartbreak found a spot on the UK charts. More popular abroad, the group worked on a tour overseas while considering the release of a darker third album Because of the Times, released in 2007. That album finally made it to Billboard's Top 200 chart, debuting at number 25, while it topped UK's, Ireland's and New Zealand's charts. It was 2008's Only by the Night that gave the Followills their ultimate release, when "Sex on Fire" debuted that year. The album eventually went platinum in eight countries and its predecessor is poised to follow suit.
