Rutile is an important raw for titanium industry. The resources ofnatural rutile in our country is primary low-grade ore, eclogite-type rutile deposit is characterized as large, thick ore body, easy to exploration and mining. In recent years, many research had been done to utilized this type of mineral, and made some achievements. But because of the little difference in separability between the useful and associated mineral, the rutile's recovery index is low, and the comprehensive recovery of associated garnet and omphacite is not achieved, resulting in poor economic returns. Therefore, for this type of ore, research on proper separation process to comprehensive recovery the useful minerals is the key problem to utilized this type ore.

In this paper, an eclogite-type rutile ore originated from donghai Jiangsu province China is researched based on process mineralogy. Using the difference among different minerals in different slurry at different pH values and different physical properties of minerals to achieve theseparation and comprehensive utilization of rutile.garnet.omphacite. The main research contents and results are as follows:

In this ore, rutile is the purpose mineral, gamet and omphacite can be recovered comprehensively, the content of other gangue minerals is relatively low. The particles of rutile are relatively large, mainly in the spaces between grains of gamet and omphacite grains, part of the fine rutile are encapsulated by gamet and omphacite. When the grinding fineness reach -0.074mm 32%, the liberation degree is 82.62%, and further grinding would not increase the liberation degree.

Experments showed that the floatability is different when these minerals in slurry with different pH value. The gamet is floated priority in pH 9 slurry; the floatability of garnet and rutile is equal and better than omphacite when pH 5 and TXB as collector; the rutile and garnet can be separated in the mix concentrate in pH 4 slurry. So adopting the "garnet priority floatation - garnet, rutile mix floatation - mix concentrate separation" process, this three minerals can be separated, then theconcentrate quality can be improved by magnetic separation.

On the bases of exploration and condition experiments, the "flotation - desliming - flotation - magnetic" joint process for Ti022.41% of the ore, the closed-circuit experiment results showed the concentrate contain 91% Ti02, the recovery was 57.46%, 68,11% rutile was recovered in concentrate; the gamet was comprehensive recovered of the content of 92% and 90% recovery, and 90~95% omphacite in its concentrate, its recovery was more than 90%. This process achieve the comprehensive utilization of retile, gamet and omphacite resoures,basically a non-tailings discharge, not only environmentally friendly,economically it is more reasonable and has good application prospects.
