Foradil 12mcg is a Drug that can Ease Asthma Related Breathing Difficulties
Manufactured by Novartis and generically known as Formoterol Fumarate - Foradil Aerolizer comprises of a capsule containing a dry powder that is meant for oral inhalation only in tandem with the aerolizer inhaler. Every capsule consists of a dry powder blend of 12 mcg of formoterol fumarate and 25 mg of lactose (containing traces of milk proteins) as a carrier. Foradil helps muscles located I the region of the airways in the lungs to stay relaxed so as to prevent asthma symptoms, such as wheezing and shortness of breath. These symptoms usually occur when muscles around the airways tighten, making it harder to breather. In acute cases, the wheezing can arrest your breathing and cause death if not treated immediately.
Benefits of Foradil
Foradil Aerolizer is recommended for the use of asthmatics and for prevention of bronchospasm as a supplementary aid to a more long-term asthma control medication. Foradil is recommended for adults and children as young as 5 years having reversible obstructive airways disease, including patients with symptoms of nocturnal asthma. This medication is not for patients with poor asthma control. Foradil is also prescribed for the treatment of bronchoconstriction in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Foradil is also indicated for treatment of exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB) in adults. It is also prescibed for children 5 years of age and older, when administered on an occasional, as-needed basis. Many patients report that one inhaled capsule in the morning keeps them symptom free all day.
Contra Indications
Long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonists, such as formoterol, the active ingredient in Foradil increase the risk of asthma-related death. Due to the risk of asthma-related death and hospitalization, use of Foradil aerolizer for the treatment of asthma without the simultaneous use of a long-term asthma control medication, such as an inhaled corticosteroid, is not recommended. Patients with hypersensitivity to formoterol fumarate or to any components of this product should avoid taking this drug. DO NOT swallow Foradil as it is meant for oral inhalation only.
Side-Effects of Foradil
The most common side-effects of Floradil are:
Dizziness
Dry mouth
Headache
Nausea
Nervousness
Stomach trouble
Insomnia
Some of the more serious side-effects of the drug are severe allergic reactions such as rash, hives, breathing difficulty, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, unusual hoarseness, chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, fever, chills, new or worsening asthma symptoms, persistent headache, dizziness, tremor, severe muscle cramps, symptoms of high blood sugar such as increased thirst, hunger or urination and so on.
Storage
Keep away from children, pets, heat and moisture at a temperature of 2 to 8 degrees centigrade in a refrigerator. Once it has been dispensed, the medication can be stored at 20 to 25 degree centigrade. Please note that the capsules should always be stored in the pre packed blister and removed just before inhaling.
