At one time, heated towel racks were the height of luxury, but today's high-end bathroom manufacturers offer a wide range of far more luxurious equipment. If you're doing a luxury bathroom remodeling project, consider some of these features.

Look beyond the plain old ceramic or acrylic sink. High-end sinks are made of copper, bronze, stone, carved marble, glass, cloisonn, Venetian glass mosaic, or hand-painted porcelain or pottery.

Sinks on top. While undermounted sinks are still popular, the luxury sink of choice is usually a vessel sink sitting on top of the vanity.

Adjustable Faucets. Higher-end faucets are jointed in two or three places so that you can direct the water jet where you want it. You can also adjust the water stream for a gentler or more forceful spray.

Consider multiple showerheads. Today's luxury showers come with multiple jets lining the walls and even the ceiling. Imagine a shower with up to 55 individual water jets each of which can be positioned specifically where you want it to spray on your body.

Add sound and light to your bath. Some new bathtubs come with panels that bathe your body in sound waves emitted through the water for a completely relaxing experience. The baths play original musical compositions, or a digital interface allows you to add your own music. They even come with light panels that change color, sometimes in concert with the abovementioned sound panels.

Add light to your shower. You can program ceiling panels to glow in your favorite colors, or use pre-installed sets of light patterns that can simulate bright sunshine, rain, or a cloudy day, depending on whether you want to be invigorated or calmed.

Enjoy digital showering with customizable shower stalls. Not only can you choose showerheads and sound/light features, but a built-in computer can remember settings for each family member. Imagine stepping into the shower and having the water temperature, shower height, and water pattern just as you like it!

Take a steam "bath." New luxury showers come with a steam setting, or you can have a completely separate steam room installed.

Soak for a while. What's old is new again in high-end bathrooms, with large soaking tubs, claw feet, and vintage-look faucets.

10. Upgrade your tile. Bathroom tile no longer has to be white, black, or baby blue. Luxury handmade tile comes in an infinite range of colors and can run hundreds of dollars per piece. The often handmade tilework and precious metal accents create a one-of-a-kind look.
