HTC Pyramid and EVO 3D Keep Manufacturer at the Top of Their Game

With LG and Samsung both announcing high powered dual core smartphones at the start of the year many had felt a bit let down by what HTC had to offer at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Chinese manufacturer had been pushing itself to the front of the smartphone market for the last few years and gone from a virtually unknown company to one of the biggest selling brands in the industry. With the Desire S and Incredible S, which offered minimum improvements over HTC's 2010 batch of handsets, many felt that the company had become to be complacent.

These people were wrong to make assumptions like that as HTC has proved it is still at the forefront of the industry with its latest dual core handsets the Pyramid and EVO 3D. Not only do these see HTC joining the dual core club alongside LG and Samsung, but doing so with even speedier 1.2GHz processors. HTC will also be breaking new ground with the EVO 3D which will be just the second smartphone to feature 3D technology.

The smartphone will feature a parallax barrier display that allows you a 3D experience without the need for glasses and will even come with the ability to record its own 3D videos and stream them through a home 3D TV. Although not featuring 3D video recording the HTC Pyramid will still come with a beautiful HD video recorder and likewise allow you to view these through a home TV.

Both phones feature high speed 3G and Wi-Fi connections with DLNA available, although the US versions will come with WiMAX that is not currently available in the UK. The EVO 3D will offer slightly speedier experience with 1GB RAM compared to the 768MB found on the Pyramid, although both will be exceptionally fast thanks to the dual core 1.2GHz processors they possess. With the latest Android Gingerbread OS and HTC's Sense on board the phones will also offer the latest in terms of apps and software features as well.

The Android OS will also provide excellent messaging features including threaded SMS, email, instant messaging and fantastic support for social networks like Facebook. With great connectivity options they are ideal phones for all online activities including general web browsing and online video content through YouTube. Both handsets offer equally impressive 4.3" capacitive Super LCD screens with high resolutions of 540 x 960 pixels.

These two phones go to show that HTC still has what it takes to produce cutting edge smartphones with their only real competitors in this half of 2011 being the Samsung Galaxy S2 and possibly the iPhone 5 (which has yet to be officially announced). HTC have skipped the dual core 1GHz processors that are doing the rounds in the first batch of dual core smartphones and upped the ante to 1.2GHz and are one of the first manufacturers to get into the emerging handheld 3D market. Although the 3D parallax technology on the EVO 3D does not offer a 'true' 3D experience as you would find in a cinema, it still provides the benefit of not requiring additional glasses to be worn for general phone usage and the HTC Pyramid should offer an excellent alternative for consumers who like the sound of the EVO smartphone but are reluctant to jump on the 3G bandwagon just yet.
